I might have just found the pants pattern I’ll be returning to again and again. The fit and style of these Classic Pants are exactly what I’ve been searching for—sleek, flattering, and incredibly wearable.
This pants and shorts pattern includes all the key features needed to create well-fitting wardrobe staples. What first caught my eye was the flat-front waistband. While gathered waists are a summer favorite—especially in breezy linen—there’s something undeniably refined about a smooth, tailored waistband. This pattern offers the best of both worlds: a cleverly designed front waistband that lies flat, paired with a partially elasticated back that gives you comfort and flexibility. It’s that hidden secret pyjama vibe we all love.
Nailing the Fit
To ensure a great fit from the start, I used the #TopDownCenterOut method—a fitting approach I’ve come to rely on. You can find a full breakdown of how it works here. Whenever I try a new pants pattern, I begin with a wearable muslin in the form of shorts. It’s a great way to focus on perfecting the waist and hip area without the distraction of adjusting full-length legs.
For my muslin, I used leftover Coco linen-blend fabric, which conveniently coordinated with my previously made Flounce Top. The result? A perfectly fitted pair of shorts and a stylish summer co-ord set.
Thoughtful Details & Styling Options
The Classic pants include sharply angled side pockets that lay smoothly across the hips—an elegant detail that pairs beautifully with the flat-front waistband. Depending on your style, you can sew them with a tapered, straight, or wide leg. I opted to add 4″ to the length of mine, allowing room for a deep, structured cuff.
For my full-length version, I selected a soft striped linen from Polytex Stoffen. The fabric gives the pants a relaxed yet tailored look and pairs effortlessly with my linen Flounce Top and Quilla Top, both already in rotation. With these two co-ord sets in hand, I’ve essentially created a mini travel capsule—perfect for a weekend getaway.
Looking Ahead
The mid-rise on these pants suits my proportions much better than higher-rise styles, and I’m excited to have a reliable go-to pattern moving forward. I can already imagine future versions in corduroy, denim, or even a statement brocade or cotton twill. Stylish, comfortable, and endlessly adaptable—this is a pattern I’ll be reaching for often.
So if you’ve been on the hunt for the perfect blend of fit and fashion, this pattern just might be it.
Because truly… There is Sew Much to Design.
