Falling For Style Makers Latest Fabric Release

Falling For Style Makers Latest Fabric Release

I’m completely smitten with this gorgeous plaid cotton from Style Maker Fabrics! Their fall collection is filled with stunning fabric options, and I was thrilled to find several that matched beautifully with my Soft Autumn color palette. This Butterscotch Madras plaid stood out immediately as the perfect addition to my seasonal capsule wardrobe.

Lightweight and breathable, this cotton is ideal for layering as temperatures shift or for staying cool on warmer fall days. Despite its airy feel, it still has a surprising amount of structure, so it holds its shape nicely in a garment. It does have a bit of sheerness, though, so if you’re planning to make a dress, you might want to consider lining it. The plaid features a bold repeat of 6″ x 5¼”, creating a broad, stripe-inspired look that feels both classic and modern.

Style Maker Fabrics really nailed it with this release—there are so many rich, wearable colors and textures to explore!

For this make, I reached for a tried-and-true favorite: the Rachel Pattern by Seamwork. This pattern, especially with the bonus options for members, has become a staple in my sewing rotation. After making several versions, I’ve got it down to a science—it’s one of those patterns I can sew up with confidence, knowing the fit will be just right.

For me, a crisp button-down shirt like Rachel is the ultimate wardrobe essential—my personal version of a tee. It’s endlessly versatile: layer it, tuck it, dress it up or down. Wear it loose over jeans for a relaxed vibe, or go oversized for a chic, urban edge. It’s one of those pieces that feels effortlessly polished no matter how you style it.

I paid special attention when cutting this one out, taking extra care to match the plaid across the front and sleeves. If you haven’t already, check out Seamwork’s plaid matching tutorial on YouTube—it’s full of great tips that really boost your confidence and final results.

For this version, I added a few custom touches:

  • Extended the cuffs to create a French cuff effect
  • Used a firmer interfacing in the collar to give it that perfect pop
  • Lengthened the bodice by 3 inches to give myself the option to wear it untucked or styled with a casual French tuck

With its warm tones of butterscotch and aubergine, this shirt is a dream for fall styling. It pairs effortlessly with cardigans, sweater vests, or even layered under outerwear like the Bud Shacket or Rhett Jacket.

Once again, the Rachel shirt has earned its spot as one of my go-to patterns. And this fabric? A new seasonal favorite.

Because at the end of the day… There is Sew Much to Design.
