The Autumn Dress: A Perfect Transition Piece

There is no doubt about it; this Autumn Dress from Style Arc Patterns will be a wardrobe staple and the main styling piece for so many outfits in several seasons. I can think of so many ways to wear this dress, but thought I would start with featuring it as summer dress.

If you are looking for an interesting sew that provides structure, great pleats, curved hemlines and of course my all time favourite. a pop collar the Autumn Dress is for you.

It features a cap sleeve, back yoke, side pockets front pleat and a creative fold for added drape in the back.

I have created a step by step sewing tutorial which you can find by heading over to Style Arc Tutorials on their website. It provides all of the sewing details as well as pictures that will guide you along your way. Just look for Autumn Dress in their list of tutorials.

The front yoke features a fold over pleat and a creative back fold that takes a few steps to create. Both add interest and wearability to the dress allowing for ease of movement.

The collar construction is very straight forward and it adds the crisp classic pop collar feature.

The cap sleeves and hemline are pressed under and topstitched. I used a heat resistant ruler that can be found on Amazon. I love the measurement guidelines and the curved edge that make pressing for a curved hemline easy and offers you a prefect curved finish.

I am already thinking of ways to use this as a transition piece once we head into fall; which completely explains the name for the dress! Think tights or leggings, high neck underpinnings, a crop jacket and scarf and you have a completely different look.

I think this dress would look great in a chambray denim as well.

After all there is so much to design!

Happy seasonal transition sewing,

Lou Sewing

Looks beautiful on you! Did you make it in any other fabrics? Did you get a lot of wear out of it?
