There’s always a buzz in the sewing community when Fibre Mood launches a new pattern collection—and their latest drop doesn’t disappoint. Among the 12 new releases designed to help your handmade wardrobe transition into fall, the Vinny Bomber Jacket stands out as a modern classic.
Bomber jackets are having a big fashion moment again. While they’ve always been a staple, they’re now front and center on runways and sidewalks alike, reimagined in relaxed, oversized silhouettes. Vinny captures that revival perfectly—combining fashion-forward details with timeless wearability.
So Many Ways to Wear It
Neutral-toned bombers, like the Vinny, are endlessly versatile. Layer it over a hoodie for added warmth and dimension, or throw it on over a graphic tee, cargo skirt, and tall boots for a chic street-style vibe. For something more polished, style it with a silk blouse, faux leather pants, and ankle boots—or dress it down with a matching jogger set and sneakers for an off-duty look. Whether you lean casual or elevated, Vinny adapts effortlessly.
Designed for Mid-Season Styling
What makes Vinny especially wearable is its oversized fit paired with an elasticated waist and cuffs. You can zip it up and slightly tuck the hem for a more structured silhouette or wear it open and breezy as a transitional layer over summer staples.
The jacket’s thoughtful details really shine. Optional flap welt pockets add a standout touch—and if you’re working with thicker fabrics like corduroy, a few buttons on the pocket flaps help keep them neat and flat. I chose vintage-inspired brass-rimmed shell buttons to subtly complement the gold zipper, adding a refined, coordinated feel.
Pleats in the sleeves give the garment added shape and sophistication, elevating it beyond a basic bomber. It’s these well-considered features that give Vinny its unique charm.
A First-Time Jacket Sew—And a Fun One!
This was my first time working with a separating zipper and full front facing, and I really enjoyed the process. The clean finish around the collar pairs beautifully with the bomber’s relaxed vibe and makes the construction both fun and satisfying.
Fabric Spotlight: Almond Babycord
For my version, I used Minerva’s Core Range Babycord in a soft almond hue. The fabric is a polyester/nylon/spandex blend (93/5/2), which makes it ideal for cooler weather. It’s warm without being heavy, and that slight stretch makes it incredibly comfortable to wear—perfect for travel or layering on the go. I plan to use my leftover fabric to sew up a coordinating skirt or trousers to make a casual set.
Of course, Vinny looks great in a wide variety of fabrics: think boiled wool, ponte, scuba, fleece, twill, or even denim. A faux leather version would be a showstopper!
Vinny is an on-trend piece that you’ll be reaching for again and again this fall and winter. With so many styling options and fabric possibilities, it’s easy to see yourself making more than one.
Stay tuned for my matching bottom half—and as always,
There is Sew Much to Design!
